When the Star Kids Throw the Party...

The Day of Love and Friendship is a very special holiday in Colombia. It is a day to spend with friends and family, exchange gifts, and express love and affection towards those closest to you. Although it is true that this is a very special day from which no one should be left out, the sad reality is that many kids are often not able to truly participate. Whether it is due to the parents not having time, being indifferent to this holiday or lacking financial resources, there are many kids who do not get to enjoy the sweets, gifts and traditions associated with this important day. It is in these situations that we are especially thankful that Make a Miracle is able to step in and throw a party for all of our Star Kids and Star Teens to enjoy.

The actual holiday is honored every year on the third Saturday of September which was September 21 this year. We got to celebrate with 80 Star Kids and 20 Star Teens in Colombia. Something that made this year’s party particularly special is that our Star Kids played a big role in planning the event. They loved making the decorations, preparing food and keeping the fun going. As leaders, we especially enjoyed watching the Star Kids contribute as it empowered them to continue stepping up as leaders.

Without a doubt, the little ones were the most enthusiastic participants in this special day. They prayed, recited the Make a Miracle Star Kids affirmations, made festive posters, played games, sang songs, did riddles, and ate tons of treats and snacks.

One Star Kid summed up the event saying, “I had so much fun! I want this to keep happening so I can eat more hot dogs, which were my favorite part! It was hilarious when we played the game where we had to do the opposite of what our leader did.”

We're certain the Star Kids and Star Teens created memories they'll cherish for a lifetime.

The event concluded with the Star Teens and leaders coming together in a circle like one big family. They did a heartfelt activity where everyone shared kind words for someone special in their lives. The emotions were palpable, and amidst applause, the true essence of Love and Friendship Day shone through.
